
HDC Hyundai Development is expanding the use of artificial intelligence and digital transformation technology at its construction sites to upgrade safety and quality management. The builder plans to raise site management efficiency and build a data-driven smart construction environment using drones, digital twins, integrated closed-circuit television monitoring and AI translation systems.
The company said on the 31st that it is strengthening its management system across the entire construction process, from groundbreaking to completion, using drones and digital twins.
Working with Meissa, an information and communications technology firm, the builder has built a cloud-based drone platform and linked it to building information modeling technology to improve productivity and safety at its sites. Through digital twins, a three-dimensional site management system, the company monitors actual construction conditions and blind spots in real time and reviews survey results. The technology is currently in use at major projects including Seoul One IPARK and Cityoseal Complex 7.
The company is also expanding real-time monitoring using CCTV. An integrated control center monitors all areas of its sites, both above and below ground, and additional cameras installed on tower cranes are helping the company track workers' activities more quickly. It plans to introduce an AI-based CCTV safety monitoring system, which would use AI to quickly detect hazardous situations that may arise during work and improve accident prevention.
Digital technology is being applied to materials management as well. The company has built a smart materials tracking system that monitors delivery vehicles entering sites in real time, shifting weighbridge checks from spot inspections to continuous management. At sites where installing a weighbridge is difficult, a video management system records and analyzes information on vehicles and materials. The collected data is linked to I-QMS, the company's quality management platform, allowing headquarters to manage materials deliveries at each site in real time and to use the data in managing subcontractors.
An AI multilingual translation system for safety communication with foreign workers is also being rolled out to all sites. Workers can scan a QR code to review pre-work toolbox meeting content and safety training materials in their native languages. The company tested the system's accuracy and usability at Seoul One IPARK, Gonjiam Station Central IPARK and Cheonan IPARK City.
"By introducing the AI translation system at all sites, we will create a safe workplace where every worker can communicate smoothly," an official at HDC Hyundai Development said. "We will continue to strengthen our safety capabilities and work to eliminate safety blind spots by reviewing measures such as a one-stop worker management system and the adoption of AI-based technologies."
