DB Group said on the 29th that it held an "AI Strategy Briefing" at the DB Financial Center in Daechi-dong, Seoul, attended by Kim, Lee and other key executives.
The briefing was intended to let executives share business strategies DB Group has drawn up for the AI era — after forming AI-related organizations and advisory panels and running working-level task forces over the past several years — and to spread best practices implemented by each affiliate in order to accelerate AX.
DB Group highlighted as a strength its diverse business portfolio in the AI field, spanning semiconductors and information technology as well as finance, manufacturing and services.
"We operate a wide range of businesses, including system semiconductor foundry and fabless, IT, trading, real estate development, and insurance and finance," a DB official said. "If our IT, foundry and fabless companies identify cutting-edge businesses that will lead the AI era and implement them at finance, manufacturing and service sites where abundant data has accumulated, the group's AI competitiveness will rise a notch further."
At the briefing, three task forces, including the "Group AI Advisory Panel," reported on the review and progress of the new businesses selected as top priorities: AI data centers, AI agents and AI solutions.
In AI infrastructure, the group presented plans for a data center business utilizing land and downtown buildings held by group companies. Discussions ranged widely, from building data centers for AI model training to constructing and operating edge data centers for inference that process AI computations close to demand sources.
The AI agent business will be driven mainly by the AX Promotion Office of DB's IT division. Various AI agent business models and use cases designed to boost work productivity and efficiency in connection with existing group businesses were also reported.
In AI solutions, the group is pursuing hardware and software businesses simultaneously. On the hardware side, it introduced a project on advanced semiconductor design and process technology being developed jointly with Sungkyunkwan University's On-Device Research Center, which has been designated a national research university. On the software side, it presented DB Insurance's AI optical character recognition (OCR) project and "Vecta," an AI platform developed by DB's IT division and applied to its insurance business.
Meanwhile, DB Group is also pursuing outside investments to secure core AI technologies and solutions early. Through the investment business division of its trading unit, it has invested in six venture companies holding leading technologies such as AI.
