LS Electric said on the 1st that it had signed a contract worth $133.41 million (about 181.2 billion won) to supply 345-kilovolt ultra-high-voltage transformers for a hyperscale artificial intelligence data center project in North America.
The project involves building large-scale AI data centers across North America together with the power generation and transmission infrastructure needed to supply them. LS Electric will deliver the 345kV transformers to nine substations in phases through 2030.
Gigawatt-scale AI data centers have been multiplying across North America as companies race to secure large AI infrastructure. That has driven a sharp increase in demand for transmission and distribution equipment, including ultra-high-voltage transformers, switchgear and circuit breakers.
LS Electric plans to expand its business opportunities across the entire power system in AI data center projects. A company official said the order was significant because it showed that LS Electric's ultra-high-voltage transformer technology and supply capability had been recognized in a large-scale AI data center project in North America, adding that the company would pursue additional orders in the North American AI data center power infrastructure market on the strength of its track record in supplying 345kV-class transformers.
