According to financial authorities and the banking industry on the 2nd, KB Kookmin Bank recently confirmed that about 100 pieces of customer information were leaked through an external intrusion.
The bank is said to have blocked the affected server and access route immediately after detecting signs of abnormal external access.
The leak occurred in a mobile work support system used by employees, according to reports. The bank explained that it is unrelated to customer financial transaction systems such as internet banking or mobile banking.
The Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service have received a report on the incident from KB Kookmin Bank and are discussing follow-up measures, according to sources.
Earlier, Shinhan Bank said a day earlier that information on about 25,000 customers was leaked after an attack that illegally hacked its telecommunication message structure.
With information leaks occurring in succession at Shinhan Bank and KB Kookmin Bank, two of South Korea's major commercial banks, concerns over hacking security in the financial sector are mounting.
Financial authorities are conducting on-site inspections, keeping in mind the possibility of additional damage, according to sources.
