WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump, who personally announced South Korea's investment projects in the United States, also confirmed them on Truth Social.
Trump wrote on Truth Social on the 30th that he met South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in New York and agreed to attract $200 billion in new investment to the United States.
Trump cited large nuclear reactors as the first project. He wrote that the United States and South Korea are pursuing a $120 billion nuclear program to build eight large reactors in the United States. He specified six Westinghouse AP1000 reactors and two Korean-made APR-1400 reactors.
Trump next said the United States and South Korea had agreed to commence working together on a $50 billion Alaska liquefied natural gas project. However, the phrase in the Commerce Department fact sheet — stating that the arrangement is contingent on commercial viability under a strategic investment memorandum of understanding and on meeting all relevant domestic legal requirements — was omitted from Trump's announcement, suggesting the issue could become contentious in future talks.
Trump also said South Korea would invest in a $22 billion, 6.4-gigawatt gas-fired power project in Encinal, Texas.
"These are projects that can transform America for generations," Trump said, describing them as bringing more power, more construction, more manufacturing, greater energy security and significant new opportunities for American workers.
