The National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee adopted a confirmation hearing report on Hong Ji-sun, the nominee for minister of land, infrastructure and transport, on the 21st with agreement from both ruling and opposition parties.
The committee held a plenary session at the National Assembly that day and approved the motion to adopt the confirmation hearing report on Hong.
The Democratic Party of Korea attached an opinion finding the nominee fit for office, while the People Power Party attached an opinion finding the nominee unfit. Rep. Yoo Eui-dong of the People Power Party, who chairs the committee, said the report "reflected the opinion that the nominee is expected to faithfully carry out the role of minister based on a high level of understanding of the land and transport sector, field experience and expertise." He added that the report "also reflected the opinion that the nominee is unfit, citing inadequate submission of documents, an extremely rapid promotion based on ties with the president that would make it difficult to pursue policies on principle and conviction, and a lack of capability as a minister in light of failures in policies the nominee had pushed as priorities."
With the adoption of the confirmation hearing report, President Lee Jae-myung is expected to appoint Hong soon.
