President Lee Jae-myung sent a biography of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun to every lawmaker of the Democratic Party ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
According to the Presidential Office on the 22nd, Lee gave the biography to Democratic Party lawmakers that day. Presidential Office staff visited the National Assembly and delivered the books directly to each lawmaker's office, without any accompanying message. The book was compiled by Yoon Tae-young, a former director of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation who served twice as presidential spokesman under the Roh administration, and draws on Roh's own recollections as well as memos and transcripts kept by his aides.
Lee's decision to send a book about Roh is seen as an attempt to overcome divisions within the ruling bloc and promote unity. At a news conference on the 18th, Lee said that "all of us who dream of the ideals of democracy, progress and reform and who act for a better world are pro-Moon, pro-Roh and pro-Kim Dae-jung, and comrades of Lee Jae-myung." On the 21st, before departing on a trip to attend the U.N. General Assembly, he also held separate phone calls with former President Moon Jae-in and Chung Chung-rae, the former leader of the Democratic Party.
