President Lee Jae-myung on the 1st appointed Kwon Dae-young, vice chairman of the Financial Services Commission, as first vice minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. He also promoted Chung Eui-kyung, head of the Land and Urban Policy Office at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to second vice minister of the ministry.
"Vice Minister Kwon is an economic and financial expert who served as director general of the financial policy bureau and secretary general at the Financial Services Commission," Sung Ki-hong, senior presidential secretary for public communication, said at a briefing. "Based on the practical sense and policy coordination skills he built in the field of financial policy, he is the right person to boldly mobilize a range of policy tools, steadily manage economic issues including the growth rate, prices and employment, and continue to find future growth momentum."
Sung also said Chung is "a career bureaucrat with broad experience in both policy and field work in the transport and land sectors." He added, "He will expand the foundation for locally led growth through wider metropolitan transport and logistics networks, build the infrastructure for the three mega projects without setbacks, and resolve transport issues that the public feels in daily life with speed and a grasp of conditions on the ground."
"Now is the time for execution," Sung said. "We must respond to the changes in people's livelihoods that the public wants, produce actual results of reform together with the public, and open the way for future generations through national unity." He added, "The Lee Jae-myung administration will concentrate all its capabilities on creating change that the public can feel, with the attitude of being judged by action rather than words in every area of state affairs and taking responsibility for results."
