GWANGJU — Gwangju Shinsegae is widening its contact with young local talent, showcasing what it means to be a regional subsidiary that grows alongside its region.
Gwangju Shinsegae said on the 17th that it held a campus recruiting event for about 150 university students and job seekers at the library annex of Chonnam National University. It was the second such event, following one last year, and was arranged to give young people in the region practical hiring information ahead of Shinsegae Group's open recruitment drive.
Campus recruiting is a program in which current employees visit universities to introduce their company, offer job counseling and provide hiring information. Job seekers were able to hear on site not only about the recruitment process but also about actual job duties and corporate culture.
The event opened with a lunchtime briefing session. Participants ate sandwiches while listening to presentations on the business direction of Shinsegae Group and Gwangju Shinsegae. Mentoring sessions with current employees and a question-and-answer session followed. Staff from Shinsegae Group's human resources team, along with employees from headquarters and operating divisions, took part in person.
The counseling session drew questions on the recruitment process, job roles, employee benefits and corporate culture. Employees gave specific, practical answers based on their own work experience.
Gwangju Shinsegae said the event went beyond a simple recruitment briefing and served as a forum where young people in the region met the company directly.
The event drew added attention because Shinsegae Group held its recruitment fairs at universities in the capital region, with the session at Chonnam National University with Gwangju Shinsegae the only one held outside that area. That underscores how Gwangju Shinsegae places weight on hiring local talent and intends to grow with the local community as a regional subsidiary.
Shinsegae Group will accept applications for entry-level positions at 10 affiliates through its official recruitment website from the 18th to Oct. 12. Interviews begin in November, and successful applicants are scheduled to join the group in January 2027. Applicants must have graduated before August 2027 or be set to graduate by August 2027.
Beyond recruiting, Gwangju Shinsegae has maintained steady cooperation with universities in the region. It has run field training programs for local university students seven times as of this year, giving students nearing graduation experience in retail operations and a chance to explore career paths.
"We created a place where university students and job seekers in the region can ask current employees their questions directly on campus," said Lee Dong-hoon, chief executive of Gwangju Shinsegae. "Through a range of recruitment activities, we will keep expanding opportunities to meet outstanding talent in the region."
