Seoul's Gangnam District has created a nighttime heritage walk along a 3-kilometer stretch of sidewalk on both sides of the road running from Seonjeongneung Station to Bongeunsa Station.
The project adds historical and cultural content to the pedestrian environment along Bongeunsa-ro, the road connecting Seonjeongneung, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Bongeunsa, a Buddhist temple that served the royal tombs during the Joseon Dynasty.
The district installed 107 LED landscape lights bearing the Seonjeongneung symbol mark, along with 59 image projectors that cast images of Seonjeongneung and Bongeunsa onto the pavement.
The landscape lights shift through a range of colors for the four seasons and for holidays such as Buddha's Birthday and Christmas.
Starting in 2027, the district plans to upgrade the walking environment, green space, signage and visitor facilities in phases, and to strengthen links with nearby tourist attractions including COEX.
