Train service at Ewha Womans University Station on Seoul Subway Line 2 returned to normal about two hours after smoke was detected at the station.
Smoke broke out at around 8:10 p.m. on the 22nd in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) room on the station platform, according to Seoul Metro. For passenger safety, the operator had trains on both the inner and outer loops of Line 2 pass through the station without stopping from 8:24 p.m. Service resumed at around 9:03 p.m. after firefighters, dispatched on a report, completed initial firefighting work.
Normal operation did not last long. After the firefighting work, all of the platform screen doors failed to open, prompting trains on both loops to again pass through Ewha Womans University Station without stopping from around 9:18 p.m. — about 15 minutes after service had resumed.
Seoul Metro then carried out repairs on the platform screen doors and lifted the no-stop measure at around 10 p.m. Line 2 trains are now stopping normally at the station. No injuries were reported from the smoke or the platform screen door malfunction.
