SUWON — Former Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will take the podium at the University of Michigan, his alma mater.
Kim said on the 29th through his Facebook account that he plans to give special lectures as a visiting distinguished scholar this semester and to meet with scholars and young people.
Kim also described his ties to the university. He explained that it was where he studied policy decision-making theory as a junior civil servant in his early 30s, wrestling with how to bridge academic study and practice. He also spent a semester there at the university's invitation after stepping down as deputy prime minister for economic affairs. This visit comes seven years after that stay.
During his time in the United States, Kim plans to stay in contact with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Kim said he had dinner with Whitmer during her visit to South Korea earlier this month, where they discussed topics including the U.S. midterm elections.
Kim also plans to carry out an itinerary at the invitation of the State University of New York while in the United States.
"I will reflect deeply on what I have done, what I have failed to do and what I will do going forward," he said.
He added that he would make active use of the AI he has been studying recently to build his own personal AI transformation (AX), saying, "I will look for answers about the future that has arrived and about our lives."
