SUWON — The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's Lifelong Learning Center said on the 29th that it will run a diversity education program on Oct. 31 for students from migrant backgrounds and their parents.
The program is designed to bring together parents and students from different cultural backgrounds to learn attitudes of mutual understanding and respect. Participants will also share ways for parents and children to build self-esteem together.
The session is titled "Self-Esteem Grows Together: Raising Self-Esteem for Parents and Children." It covers empathy, diversity, respect for others, sensitivity and self-esteem as its core themes.
The lecture will be led by Jang Yeon-hee, an instructor at the Korea Institute for Healthy Family. Jang plans to use case studies to explain how an attitude of respecting diversity in parent-child relationships helps build self-esteem.
Applications can be submitted through the Gyeonggi Parent Support Center website.
Ji Mi-sook, director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's Lifelong Learning Center, said, "I hope this will be a time when students and parents from different backgrounds experience understanding and respect." The director added, "We will continue working to spread inclusive education and a culture that respects diversity."
