Police have launched a compulsory investigation into allegations that Kim Gil-sung, chief of Seoul's Jung District, provided meals to constituents.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Bureau said it began searching the Jung District Office building at about 4:30 p.m. on the 29th. The search reportedly covered multiple offices inside the district government building.
Kim is suspected of providing meals worth hundreds of thousands of won to constituents at a restaurant in a five-star hotel in Seoul in June this year. Article 113 of the Public Official Election Act bars heads of local governments from making donations to voters in their districts.
The warrant cited an alleged violation of the Public Official Election Act. Police plan to summon Kim and others for questioning after analyzing the seized materials.
