A foreign worker in his 30s was killed when ceiling concrete collapsed at an apartment construction site in Seoul's Seocho district being built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction (000720).
The accident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on the 29th inside a unit on the 23rd floor of the site, while the worker was waiting to begin cleaning work, the Ministry of Employment and Labor said. The 30-year-old male foreign worker died after being struck by the falling concrete.
The Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office's serious accident investigation division and its construction industrial accident prevention supervision division halted work at the site and opened an investigation. Labor authorities plan to examine why the concrete gave way and to determine whether the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act were violated.
