ANSAN — The city of Ansan in Gyeonggi Province said on the 1st that it will hold the "Nolmeong Swimeong" (Play-a-While, Rest-a-While) space-out contest on the 17th at Bangameori Beach on Daebudo Island, with the sunset as a backdrop.
The event was organized after being selected for the Incheon International Airport Corporation's 2026 public grant program supporting residents of noise-affected areas. The aim is to offer time to rest for both residents of those areas and visitors, while promoting Daebudo Island's marine tourism resources.
Programs at the venue are designed to help participants step away from busy daily routines and slow down in body and mind. Featured activities include slow running to awaken physical senses, slow drawing that combines music and art, and "brain-rest spacing out," in which participants gaze at the sea around sunset.
Hands-on activities for families will also be available. Offerings include an eco-friendly wooden playground, face painting, singing bowl meditation and a program in which participants draw one another's portraits.
The centerpiece "Sunset Space-Out Contest" will feature 70 teams selected through advance registration. Each team may have up to three members. Participants compete by looking out at the sea and doing nothing for a set period of time.
Winners will be determined by combining heart-rate measurements with artistic scores from on-site public voting. Applications are open through the 11th on the contest website. Selected applicants will be notified on the 12th through a website announcement and individual contact.
"I hope this gives residents a moment to rest amid the sea and sunset of Daebudo Island," Ansan Mayor Lee Min-geun said. "I expect this event to be an occasion for experiencing the island's many attractions."
