Law firm Lee & Ko has hired Je Ok-pyung, a former official at the Financial Supervisory Service and a graduate of the 38th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
Lee & Ko said on the 1st that Je had joined its finance and securities group as a partner. The move follows a string of recent hires of specialists in the finance and securities field. Earlier this year, the firm recruited senior officials from the Financial Services Commission, including Shin Sang-rok, who headed the commission's capital market investigation division, and Chung Wan-kyu, former head of the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit.
Je specializes in financial regulation and financial disputes. From 2013 to 2018, Je worked at the FSS in units including the corporate finance improvement department, the sanctions review department and the first capital market investigation department, gaining hands-on experience in financial regulation and capital market supervision. Je also currently serves as an outside expert for the financial authorities, sitting on the FSS committee that reviews no-action letters and advising the FSC as a legal adviser.
"Je Ok-pyung combines practical experience in finance with professional legal expertise, and will be an ideal asset for responding to financial regulation and resolving disputes," said Kim Sang-gon, managing partner at Lee & Ko and a graduate of the institute's 23rd class.
