SEONGNAM — The city of Seongnam will open the Pangyo Daejang Library at 3 p.m. on the 7th at 631 Daejang-dong in the city's Bundang district.
Construction ran from April 2020 until recently at a total cost of 28.9 billion won, including 5.9 billion won in central and provincial government funding. The library sits on a 1,863-square-meter site with a total floor area of 5,145 square meters, spread across two basement levels and two above-ground floors.
The first floor houses reading rooms for infants and children, a lobby and a meeting area with cafe facilities. It also includes Bandi Hall, a learning room, a creative studio and Sorideul, a soundproof room. The second floor holds a general reading room, digital reading space and lecture rooms. The two basement levels provide parking for 53 vehicles.
The library holds 20,614 volumes, including general and children's books. It also offers an inter-library loan service that allows users to borrow and return materials from other libraries in Seongnam. The city plans to begin reading and cultural programs for children and adults in November.
"We will run the Pangyo Daejang Library so that it becomes a local hub where reading and cultural activities come together," Seongnam Mayor Shin Sang-jin said.
The opening ceremony will be held in front of the main entrance on the first floor. About 100 people are expected to attend, including Mayor Shin, National Assembly members, city and provincial council members and local residents.
