NAGOYA — South Korea's top men's high jumper, Woo Sang-hyeok, again fell short of an Asian Games gold medal.
The "Smiling Jumper" cleared 2.22 meters to finish with the bronze in the men's high jump final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held on the 27th at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya, Japan.
After clearing 2.22 meters, Woo twice failed at 2.25 meters. He raised the bar to 2.28 meters on his third and final attempt but could not clear it.
Woo ranks among the world's elite in the event, having won the 2022 World Indoor Championships, taken silver at the 2022 World Championships and claimed another title at the 2025 World Indoor Championships.
The Asian Games, however, have proved elusive. After finishing 10th at the 2014 Incheon Games, he won silver at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games and again at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
