LG Uplus (032640.KS) is launching mobile stores that travel to remote island and mountain areas without permanent retail outlets, offering telecom consultations and digital literacy classes on site.
The company said on the 7th that it will deploy one "visiting store" each in the Yeongnam and Honam regions, using converted Hyundai Solati vans. Teams of three employees will visit remote island and mountain areas, smaller cities without stores, and districts with large older populations.
The mobile stores will handle USIM card replacements and consultations on home and mobile phone bills, along with classes on smartphone use and voice phishing prevention. Each vehicle is fitted with a customer consultation area and monitors, while awnings, tables and chairs can be set up outside to expand the consultation space depending on conditions at each site.
The vans will also be dispatched to local festivals and events, where they will provide telecom consultations and power bank rentals and promote bundled internet, IPTV and mobile packages. For small business owners, the teams will advise on telecom services needed to run a store, including closed-circuit television, point-of-sale systems and internet connections.
When floods, wildfires or other disasters strike, the vehicles will be used for on-site support, providing free Wi-Fi, smartphone charging and power bank rentals.
"This is a new customer touchpoint that goes beyond having customers come to a store, instead taking telecom services directly to the areas and sites where they are needed," said Jung Chul, executive vice president and head of the Consumer Sales Group at LG Uplus. "We will expand field-based activities so that people can access the consultations and digital education they need regardless of where they live or how old they are."
