According to Seoul Metro, smoke was detected at around 8:10 p.m. on Monday in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) room on the station platform.
For passenger safety, Seoul Metro ordered inner- and outer-loop Line 2 trains to bypass the station without stopping beginning at 8:24 p.m.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene completed an initial knockdown and then carried out drainage work. No injuries from the smoke have been reported so far.
After confirming that no further smoke was being generated and that the fire department's response had been completed, Seoul Metro resumed normal train service at the station at 9:03 p.m., 39 minutes after the bypass measure began.
"The fire department's response to the smoke in the UPS room at Ewha Womans University Station has been completed, so train service is resuming," a Seoul Metro official said.
