Emart24 said on the 5th that it opened its first gas station convenience store in Cambodia, Emart24 BVM Kour Srov, on Sept. 27.
In July, Emart24 signed a memorandum of understanding with local energy company BVM Petroleum granting it exclusive rights to operate stores within BVM's gas station network. The company plans to add two more gas station convenience stores this year and eventually expand the format to 50 outlets using BVM's network.
The first store occupies about 192 square meters inside a BVM gas station near National Road 2, which runs through southern Phnom Penh. It sells Korean food items such as tteokbokki and hot dogs, along with beverages and snacks. The high share of motorcycle and car use in Cambodia, which makes gas stations easily accessible, also factored into the decision to open there.
Emart24 entered Cambodia in June 2024, the first South Korean convenience store chain to do so. After initially adding stores around Phnom Penh, it expanded this year into provincial cities including Sihanoukville, Siem Reap and Battambang. It now operates 42 stores and aims to reach 70 by the end of the year.
"We will continue to expand our Cambodian business by combining BVM's gas station network with Emart24's merchandising and operating capabilities," an Emart24 official said.
