Lisa, a member of the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK and a solo artist, has spoken about the pressure she felt to conceal her relationships during the group's early years.
In the upcoming documentary "Always Lalisa," Lisa said that in K-pop culture, being caught by paparazzi with a partner damages an artist's popularity, according to foreign media including the U.S. pop culture outlet Complex on the 3rd. "I dated a few times when I was younger, but I had to hide it because I didn't want my relationships to hurt BLACKPINK's popularity," she said.
Lisa added that "Dream," a track on her solo album "Alter Ego" released last year, is an autobiographical song about that secret relationship. The song was released with the consent of the person involved, on the condition that fans would not be able to identify who it was about.
Rosé, another member of the group, has also spoken in an interview about the practical constraints on dating faced by female K-pop artists.
Directed by Sue Kim, "Always Lalisa" will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on the 11th. It opens in theaters worldwide, including IMAX screens, on the 12th of next month, and is scheduled to be released on YouTube Premium later this year.
