Ko Young-wook, a former member of the group Roo'ra, has posted a series of messages on social media about funerals held without wakes and about personal relationships, even as his continued online activity draws public criticism.
On the 15th, Ko shared on his social media account an article reporting that funerals held without a wake are on the rise. The article said 25,045 such funerals were held last year, up about 60% from 15,672 in 2021.
"My family decided to do it this way a long time ago. I guess I'm ahead of the curve in many ways," Ko wrote. He also shared an article about a growing trend among young people in Britain of openly admitting they have no friends. "I'm always ahead of the curve. Ha," he added.
Ko has recently been posting frequently on social media about fellow entertainers and current social issues. Critics say the posts could inflict further harm on his victims and their families.
Author So Jae-won, who wrote the original works behind the films "Hope" and "Tunnel," recently criticized Ko's social media activity, saying he "excretes garbage posts almost every day, continuing to inflict secondary harm on the victims, their families and the public." He urged Ko to stop posting, saying, "Neither the victims nor the world has ever forgiven you, so please stop."
Ko was indicted on charges of raping and sexually assaulting three minors between 2010 and 2012. In 2013, the Supreme Court finalized a sentence of two years and six months in prison, along with orders to wear an electronic tracking device for three years and to have his personal information disclosed and notified for five years. He was released in 2015 after serving his term.
