The committee held a plenary session at the National Assembly that day and passed the motion to adopt the confirmation hearing report on Hong. Rep. Yoo Eui-dong of the People Power Party, who chairs the committee, said the report "reflected the Democratic Party's opinion that Hong appears likely to faithfully carry out the role of land minister, based on her deep understanding of the land and transport sector, field experience and expertise."
The People Power Party, by contrast, submitted an opinion finding her unqualified, pointing to insufficient submission of requested documents and describing her as a case of "ultra-fast promotion" built on ties to President Lee. The party also concluded that she lacks sufficient policy capability as a minister, given that failures had emerged in major policies she pursued. Hong previously served as director-general of the Urban Housing Bureau at Gyeonggi Province while President Lee was governor of the province.
