President Lee Jae-myung, currently visiting the United States to attend the U.N. General Assembly, on the 22nd approved the appointments of Lee So-young as minister of SMEs and startups and Lee Jung-hyun as deputy prosecutor general.
Presidential Office senior spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said Lee approved the appointments of the nominee and the deputy prosecutor general that day.
The National Assembly's Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee on the same day voted to adopt the confirmation hearing report on the nominee. The report included both the ruling party's assessment that she was qualified and the opposition party's assessment that she was not. Lee is reported to have chosen a field visit in the greater Seoul area as her first official schedule on the morning of the 23rd.
With the president's approval of the appointment of Suwon High Prosecutors' Office chief Lee Jung-hyun, named by the Ministry of Justice as the new deputy prosecutor general, Lee is expected to serve as acting prosecutor general, a post that is currently vacant.
Meanwhile, the president has completed the appointments of Lee Hyoung-il as deputy prime minister for economy and minister of finance and economy, Kang Shin-chul as minister of national defense, Hong Ji-sun as minister of land, infrastructure and transport, and Lee So-young as minister of SMEs and startups — four of the six ministerial nominees named on the 30th of last month for his second-term cabinet, excluding Kim Seung-won and Yong Hye-in, whose nominations were withdrawn.
