BUSAN — Transit cards preloaded with 100,000 won each will go to 3,000 teenagers from vulnerable groups in Busan.
The city said it will hold a handover ceremony with the Busan Metropolitan City Public Transit Citizens Fund at the international reception room of city hall on the 22nd.
Through the program, the fund will provide 3,000 transit cards charged with 100,000 won each, worth a combined 300 million won.
Recipients are 3,000 young people, including high school seniors who are recipients of basic livelihood benefits and out-of-school youths preparing for the high school equivalency exam.
The cards can be used not only on buses, subways and other public transit but also at convenience stores, supermarkets, cafes, movie theaters and other merchants that accept credit cards, which the city expects will offer practical support for the recipients' studies and leisure activities.
The Public Transit Citizens Fund is a nonprofit foundation that promotes the use of public transit. It has provided transit cards worth 300 million won each year to teenagers from vulnerable groups in the region since 2019.
"We will continue to build an inclusive welfare environment through public-private cooperation so that young people can grow up with peace of mind," said Kim So-young, director general of the city's Women and Family Bureau.
