HONGSEONG — South Chungcheong Province is pursuing an artificial intelligence transformation across residents' daily lives and industry as a whole, aiming for an early completion of its vision to become "South Chungcheong, Korea's AI Capital."
The province said it held a briefing on AI projects identified by each bureau and division on the 28th in the main conference room of the provincial government building. Governor Park Soo-hyun, Administrative Vice Governor Hong Jong-wan, Political Affairs Vice Governor Koo Bon-young, and heads of bureaus, divisions and institutes attended.
The province has set "South Chungcheong, Korea's AI Capital" as its vision and is pursuing three balanced policies: a people-centered AI basic society, leadership in advanced industry AI transformation, and AI transformation of locally based industries. It is also pursuing a supporting policy to complete public-sector AI transformation. The province identified a total of 219 projects this time.
In the people-centered AI basic society category, the selected projects include a support program for wearable robots for people with limited mobility, an AI-based counseling support system for social welfare facilities, and an AI-based care service system for island residents.
For the advanced industry AI transformation category, the projects include a South Chungcheong model for AI transformation at small and medium-sized enterprises, a package for discovering and nurturing AI transformation startups in the province, and an "AI Chungnam Tong" platform for small business support policies.
Under AI transformation of locally based industries, the province identified a South Chungcheong smart farm machinery safety alert app, AI capacity building for social and solidarity economy organizations, AI-based content on the province's history and culture, and an AI-based livestock odor management system.
For the public AI transformation category, the province proposed a South Chungcheong AI infrastructure buildout, a provincial AI administrative innovation platform, AI literacy education to ease administrative burdens, a smart storm and flood disaster response system, and an AI-based fire risk prediction and prevention management system.
"Provincial administration must now change its makeup into an 'AI-native local government' that assumes AI from the policy and project design stage," Park said. "We must ensure these changes carry through to residents' lives and industrial sites so the province establishes itself as South Chungcheong, Korea's AI Capital."
