GURI — The city of Guri in Gyeonggi Province is stepping up efforts to strengthen communication with residents and shift toward on-site administration.
Mayor Shin Dong-hwa carried out an on-site inspection tour focused on public feedback on the 2nd to review major projects and points of contact with residents' daily lives and to explore ways to improve them, the city said the same day.
A day earlier, on the 1st, Shin visited Guri Han River Citizens' Park for a comprehensive review of preparations for the Guri Cosmos Festival, which runs from the 9th to the 11th. After examining visitor traffic routes and key facilities, the mayor focused on safety management systems and walking conditions in anticipation of large crowds, instructing staff to prepare thoroughly so that the festival runs without disruption.
Shin then moved to the construction site of a barrier-free trail project underway in the Mount Achasan area, where the mayor received a progress report and reviewed site conditions in detail. The project installs deck walkways and other structures along steep sections of the hiking trail so that people with limited mobility, including people with disabilities and older adults, can safely enjoy forest recreation and visit cultural heritage sites.
Shin personally reviewed major complaints filed at the site and matters requiring coordination among city departments, calling for construction that reflects the perspective of people with limited mobility and for minimizing inconvenience to residents during the work.
"I will take care of every detail until the very end so that the Cosmos Festival, our signature event, gives residents autumn memories without a single safety incident," Shin said. "The barrier-free trail will also be completed by actively reflecting voices from the field, so that all residents, including those with limited mobility, can enjoy it freely."
