SUWON — The Gyeonggi Province Audit Commission will conduct a comprehensive audit of Yongin Special City from Oct. 7 through Nov. 6, the province said.
The audit will center on administrative work funded by national or provincial budgets and on duties delegated under law. While the commission will respect the autonomy of cities and counties, it plans to include self-governing affairs in the audit when suspicions of legal violations arise through resident tips or media reports.
Residents can submit tips online through the "audit tips" window on the Gyeonggi Province Audit Commission website until Oct. 27. The commission also plans to use cases received through other channels, including complaint investigations and public-interest whistleblowing, as audit material.
Tips may cover inconveniences experienced by residents as well as illegal or improper conduct by public officials, corruption, fraudulent claims against public funds and unlawful management of public finances.
Matters that could affect investigations or court proceedings are excluded. Also excluded are issues involving private legal relations or possible invasions of privacy, along with cases already audited or currently under audit by other agencies.
The commission said it will strictly manage submissions so that the identities of tipsters are not disclosed. It added that it will strengthen protections against retaliation for those who come forward and will review submissions closely from residents' perspective.
