YONGIN — The city of Yongin said on the 7th that it has installed enclosed shelters designed to reduce fine dust exposure at five intercity bus transfer stops, aiming to make waiting for buses more comfortable for residents.
The project cost a total of 366 million won ($263,000), including 256 million won from the city budget and 110 million won from Gyeonggi Province. Construction began in May and the upgrades were completed in September.
The five sites are the stops at Exit 6 of Giheung Station, the Bojeong-dong Community Service Center in Giheung District, the Suji district heating plant, Saeteo Village in Suji District, and the stop in front of the Yongin Public Bus Terminal and the Yongin Desian complex in Cheoin District.
The city built sealed shelters at the stops to limit the inflow of exhaust fumes and dust from adjacent roads. Each shelter is equipped with heating and cooling systems and a bus information terminal (BIT) that displays arrival times in real time.
Facilities for people with reduced mobility, including people with disabilities and older adults, were also strengthened. The city set aside space for wheelchair users and laid braille blocks and directional guidance blocks to ease movement.
"We have improved the waiting environment at transfer stops that handle heavy passenger traffic," Mayor Lee Sang-il said. "We will continue to upgrade stop facilities so that residents can use public transportation safely and conveniently."
