AMD Chair and Chief Executive Lisa Su will host a "Gamer Day" event at Dragon City in Seoul's Yongsan district at 2 p.m. on the 7th, her first visit to Korea in seven months.
Su will attend the event along with Senior Vice President Jack Huynh, according to industry sources on the 6th. A media doorstep Q&A session with Su is also scheduled for 3:30 p.m. that day.
During the trip, Su is expected to meet with Korean artificial intelligence chip companies to discuss ways to expand technology cooperation.
The Ministry of Science and ICT is arranging a meeting on the 8th between AMD and executives of leading Korean AI accelerator startups. The ministry is coordinating schedules with major Korean neural processing unit developers including FuriosaAI, Rebellions, DeepX, Mobilint and MangoBoost. A meeting between Su and Bae Kyung-hoon, deputy prime minister and minister of science and ICT, is also being pursued around the 8th, sources said. Both plans remain in early discussion and have not been finalized.
Su plans to firm up cooperation between AMD and Korean AI accelerator companies during the visit. Whether a second high-level meeting with Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) executives will take place is also drawing attention. During her visit in March, Su dined with senior executives including Jun Young-hyun, vice chairman of Samsung's device solutions division, at Seungjiwon in Seoul's Hannam-dong at the invitation of Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee. The following day, she met with Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung's device experience division, to discuss cooperation. Samsung is set to supply sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory, or HBM4, for AMD's next-generation GPUs, so any additional meeting could cover expanding the partnership beyond memory into mobile devices and AI PCs.
Whether Su will meet executives of SK hynix (000660.KS) and LG Electronics (066570.KS) is another point of interest. Both companies have recently expanded AI cooperation centered on Nvidia. If meetings materialize during Su's visit, partnerships between Korean companies and AMD could broaden further.
