Broadcaster Kim Gu-ra said his family clan owns about 400,000 pyeong, or roughly 1.3 million square meters, of land in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.
The YouTube channel "Gurigura" released a video on the 14th titled "Economic Stories Good to Listen to in Bed, Kim Gu-ra Economic Research Institute EP.115 Full Version."
Kim brought up the clan-owned land while discussing a subscriber's story about disposing of and inheriting a building in a provincial area.
"Back when I had no work, I used to think every day about whether the clan land would sell," Kim said. "It turned out not to be easy."
Asked where the land was, he said, "It's in Pocheon. It's about 400,000 pyeong."
Speaking about the clan's members, Kim said, "In our clan, there aren't that many descendants left." He then drew laughter by adding, "So it's not bad. There's hope."
He said his mother had also once hoped the land would sell. "Before I made it, my mother used to say, 'The land really needs to sell somehow,'" Kim recalled.
He added that his mother no longer says such things now that he has established himself through his broadcasting work.
Kim also noted the practical difficulties, saying of the clan land, "Even if it sells, the money doesn't come in right away."
When real estate experts suggested going to see the Pocheon land in person, Kim replied, "Let's do it as content."
