Television personality Seo Dong-joo has shared a story about going to a nightclub in the United States with her mother, Seo Jung-hee.
A video titled "Why Seo Jung-hee and Seo Dong-joo, a Mother and Daughter With Opposite Personalities and Tastes, Get Along So Well" was posted on the YouTube channel "Seo Dong-joo's Ttododing" on Sept. 14.
In the video, Seo Dong-joo spoke about what she was most glad to have done for her mother. "When my mom was going through a hard time, when she had just found herself alone and was depressed and struggling, I was living in San Francisco, so I asked her to come and we lived together for a few months," she said.
"During that time, I took her to all the restaurants in San Francisco where I had eaten good food, and to all the bars I like," she recalled. "I packed in all the experiences she hadn't been able to have in her life."
"Once you get older, when would my mom ever have a chance to go to a bar? She had gone her whole life without ever going," Seo Dong-joo said. "And I thought, 'Before I die, I should go to a place called a club at least once,' so my friends and I all took my mom to a hip-hop club, and she had such a great time."
"My mom danced with so much energy that my friends said, 'Your mom is cool.' And then some men in their 20s hit on her, and she said, 'No!' and turned up her nose at them even there. Making memories like that made me think I was so glad I took her," she said.
Seo Jung-hee married the late comedian Seo Se-won in 1982 and divorced in 2015. The couple has a daughter, Seo Dong-joo, and a son, Seo Jong-woo, previously named Seo Dong-cheon.
