The 12th Seoul Metropolitan Council has adopted "Always Beside Citizens, Once Again a True Council" as its official slogan. The phrase is meant to convey a commitment to resolving residents' difficulties on the ground and to fulfilling the core role of a local legislature — providing checks and balances.
The council said on the 6th that it finalized the phrase after it won the most votes, 1,966, in an open poll of about 4,000 citizens conducted from Aug. 31 to Sept. 14.
Before the vote, the council collected 76 entries from council members and staff, then narrowed them to five finalists through internal and expert reviews. On Oct. 2, it held an awards ceremony for the slogan contest, presenting one grand prize and four runner-up awards.
The new slogan will be used in promotional videos, publications and official documents over the next four years.
"We will faithfully carry out the meaning of the slogan that citizens chose, and build trust that a capable Seoul Metropolitan Council is always beside them," said Lim Man-gyun, speaker of the Seoul Metropolitan Council.
