South Korea claimed bronze in the recurve mixed team event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, the country's second medal in the recurve discipline at the competition.
Kim Je-deok of Yecheon County Office and Kang Chae-young of Hyundai Mobis defeated Japan's Junya Nakanishi and Nanami Asakuno 5-1 in set points (39-35, 37-37, 37-35) in the bronze-medal match on the 2nd at the multipurpose plaza of Okazaki Central Park in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
South Korea had been chasing a second consecutive title in the event but had to settle for bronze.
After a 0-6 loss to China in the semifinals (32-37, 36-37, 34-37) in which they failed to win a single set, the South Koreans took control of the bronze-medal match by shooting 39 in the first set, then tied the second set 37-37 to lead 3-1 on set points.
They closed out the match by edging their opponents 37-35 in the third set.
In the mixed team event, each set is decided by the combined score of two arrows from each of the two archers. A set win earns two points and a draw one point, with the first team to reach five points taking the match.
The bronze gave Kang two medals in a single day, following the silver she won in the women's recurve team event earlier that morning. Kim, a double gold medalist at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, picked up his first medal of these Games.
South Korean archers continue their pursuit of gold in the remaining men's team and individual events.
