South Korea's men's archery team reaffirmed its position as Asia's best.
The men's recurve team of Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Hall), Lee Woo-seok (Kolon) and Kim Je-deok (Yecheon County Office) defeated India 5-1 in set points (56-56, 57-50, 56-54) in the men's recurve team final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held on the 2nd at the multipurpose plaza of Okazaki Central Park in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
It was South Korea's 33rd gold medal of the Games and the second in archery.
The first archery gold went to Kim Jong-ho (Hyundai Steel), who won the men's individual compound event earlier.
With this gold, Kim Woo-jin, the oldest of the three, claimed his first Asian Games team title in 16 years, since the 2010 Guangzhou Games. Lee Woo-seok and Kim Je-deok, both members of the winning team at the 2023 Hangzhou Games, took team gold at a second consecutive Asian Games, showing that the squad has lost none of its strength through a generational shift.
The team's performance also lived up to its billing as the world's strongest archery nation. Shooting in the order of Lee Woo-seok, Kim Je-deok and Kim Woo-jin, the team tied the first set 56-56 as both sides felt each other out.
The match turned in the second set. The three archers hit the 10-ring in succession early in the set to seize the initiative, and as India's arrows drifted out of the yellow center into the red zone, South Korea pulled well ahead at 57-50.
The third set was a matter of closing it out. The score was level at 28-28 after each archer had taken a first shot, but the balance tipped when India's fourth arrow landed in the 7-ring. India was held to 54 points, and South Korea finished with 56 to seal the gold.
In recurve team competition, each of the three archers shoots two arrows per set and the combined score decides the set. A set win is worth two points and a draw one point, with the first team to reach five points winning the match.
