42Maru, an agentic artificial intelligence startup, has filed patents in South Korea and the United States for technology that allows large language models to read a company's unstructured documents and generate the requested information as tables and charts.
The company recently filed a patent for a "method and system for generating data representations based on large language models," according to industry sources on the 22nd. Registration of the patent has been approved in Korea, and the filing in the U.S. has also been completed. With the addition, 42Maru has filed or secured a total of 122 patents at home and abroad.
The core of the patent is that it combines computation and inference functions for corporate data, going beyond simple text summaries to deliver data analysis and visualization results. The large language model recognizes information contained in unstructured documents held internally by a company, then generates the needed content as tables or charts in response to a user's question. The technology also includes a step that cross-checks figures in the answer against the company's actual data. "This can improve the response accuracy of small large language models (sLLMs) for enterprise use and reduce hallucinations," the company said.
42Maru is also broadening the scope of its enterprise AI patents into areas such as report generation, conversational agents and data security. Its technology for generating reports based on corporate data has completed registration in Korea and is under review in the U.S. and Europe, while its conversational AI agent technology was filed in the U.S. in January this year. More recently, the company filed for data security technology that uses language models. 42Maru plans to apply the patented technologies to its enterprise LLM solutions in stages and to expand supply to major companies and public agencies at home and abroad.
"Patents are the most objective indicator of an AI company's technological capabilities and a safety net that protects the business in the global market," said Kim Dong-hwan, chief executive of 42Maru. "We will continue to expand filings at home and abroad for core technologies in LLMs and agentic AI."
